Well I put my 2 redtails together bout 2 Months ago and she had her tail up in the air and was acting like she was ready to breed. she ate a rat 2 weeks ago but looking at her now her body has gotten a lot bigger than normal. She is in good health and active, but she has gotten a little bitchy lately. when i reach in to pull her out she hisses and strikes but has not bit. she just hits me with her nose. I know when I bred redtails in the past the female got a bit of an attitude when she was gravid. Like I said her body is getting bigger but she has not shed since right before i put her in with the male. I'm thinking bout taking her to the vet for a sonogram. Does anybody have any suggestions? should I wait or go ahead and take her in for the sonogram?

I'd just leave her. No point in stressing her and moving her all over the place. If she drops, she drops.

I would keep a hot spot around 90 degrees.. If she is gravid she will stay on the heat.. If she is not gravid she wont worry about the heat too much.. When did she shed last? That makes a huge difference as red tails have a post ovulation shed, and then the babies come about 105 days after that POS shed. Since she is still on the small side, I will continue feeding her, but very small prey size. Id feed 1 small rat every 2-3 weeks.. Again, if she is gravid she may refuse meals, depending on animal.. Now if she did have a POS shed already, you must of saw the ovulation or 'swell'. Its super hard to miss the swell as it would have looked like she ate a football, lol.. After a few days that swell goes back to normal, that just means the eggs inside her are moving into position.. Id like to hear your feedback on what you seen, and if she had a POS.. Good luck

the last time she shed was about 2 months ago she just got the big lump in her real quick it was like she was normal one day and then boom she got fat. she is staying in her hide now and not coming out much. I have a box in there for her hide and she has literally moved it toward the hot side of her cage but she is pretty much staying in the hide. every once in a while she will stick her head out but not often

If she did have a Swell, she may go right into blue(shed).. If she does, then start counting to 105 days after the shed.. My last boa gave birth at 112 days POS, the 2 before that were at 105 to the day..

she took a f/t rat wrapped it up then let it go and left it alone. tried again and she wouldn't take it.
